Australia deploys troops and aircraft to Middle East

Australia has deployed 85 ADF troops and a sophisticated reconnaissance aircraft to the Middle East to assist the United Arab Emirates in defending against Iranian missile and drone attacks. Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirms the deployment is focused on collective self-defence and protecting approximately 115,000 Australians in the region, particularly the 24,000 in the UAE. Iran has previously directed attacks on Australian soil, leading to the expulsion of the Iranian ambassador in the previous year.
