José Luis Calva Zepeda, dubbed the Cannibal Poet, murdered at least one woman in 2007 - his girlfriend, Alejandra Galeana - and dismembered her body inside his home. When police entered his Mexico City apartment, they discovered body parts stored in plastic bags and human meat simmering on the stove. Further investigation linked him to additional murders of even more women, marked by extreme violence and post-mortem dismemberment. The horror of the Cannibal Poet lies not just in the cannibalism, but in the psychology: a man who romanticized himself as a tortured intellectual while reducing women to consumable objects...literally.
