בנתינת "מחצית השקל" הי' צ"ל "ימסרנה יפה יפה" כדי שה"מחצית השקל" שלו ייעשה חלק של ממון צבור וקרבנות צבור. ועד"ז בעבודת התפלה (שכנגד עבודת הקרבנות), שלפני התפלה יש להתאחד עם הצבור ולקבל ע"ע מצות אהבת ישראל. ובא' באדר, שאז "משמיעין על השקלים", יש נתינת-כח מיוחדת לזה, והזמן מסוגל להתעורר בענין מחצית השקל כפשוטו ‏–‏ נתינת הצדקה. ב) ע"י נתינת (רק) מחצית השקל מקבלים חלק בכל קרבנות הצבור של כל השנה! וההוראה: אע"פ שעל האדם להתייגע ביותר למסור את עשר כחות נפשו לה' ("תרומה לה'"), אבל במה נחשב כל היגיעה וכו' לעומת התוצאה ‏–‏ הרי עי"ז, וע"י שמתבונן שהוא רק "מחצית השקל" ומתאחד עם יהודי נוסף‏ כדי להיות "שלם", הרי הוא בונה את ביהמ"ק הפרטי והכללי ומקריב בו את כל הקרבנות!

Synopsis

(1) The half-shekel had to be “given wholeheartedly,” so that one’s half-shekel would become part of the communal fund and the communal offerings. The same applies to the service of tefillah (which corresponds to the service of the offerings): before davening one must unite with the entire community of the Jewish people and accept upon himself the mitzvah of Ahavas Yisroel. On the first of Adar, when “a proclamation is made concerning the shekels” we are especially empowered to do this, and this is also a time of awakening regarding the function of the half-shekel in the literal sense – giving tzedakah. (2) By giving a half-shekel, one acquires a portion in all the communal offerings of the entire year. The lesson is that although it takes effort for a person to devote his “ten geirah” (i.e. the ten soul-faculties) to Hashem (“a terumah for Hashem”), the outcome is incomparably greater: when one makes this offering, and in so doing he recognizes that he is only a “half-shekel,” and that he must unite with another Jew in order to be “whole,” he builds both his personal Beis Hamikdash and the communal Beis Hamikdash, and brings all the offerings within it.
