年糕 nián gāo – rice cake eaten during Lunar New Year

長輩 zhǎng bèi – elder; senior family member

壓歲錢 yā suì qián – lucky money given during New Year

守歲 shǒu suì – to stay up late on New Year’s Eve

凌晨 líng chén – early morning; before dawn

打牌 dǎ pái – to play cards or mahjong

萬象更新 wàn xiàng gēng xīn – everything starts anew; a fresh beginning

走春 zǒu chūn – to go out visiting and traveling during New Year

拜年 bài nián – to pay a New Year visit; to send New Year greetings

旅遊景點 lǚ yóu jǐng diǎn – tourist attraction

祈福 qí fú – to pray for blessings

回娘家 huí niáng jiā – (a married woman) to return to her parents’ home

丈夫 zhàng fū – husband

伴手禮 bàn shǒu lǐ – souvenir; gift brought when visiting

睡到自然醒 shuì dào zì rán xǐng – to wake up naturally without an alarm

睡到飽 shuì dào bǎo – to sleep as much as one wants

設定鬧鐘 shè dìng nào zhōng – to set an alarm

接神 jiē shén – to welcome gods back after New Year

財神 cái shén – God of Wealth

累積 lěi jī – to accumulate

馬年 mǎ nián – Year of the Horse

大吉大利 dà jí dà lì – great luck and prosperity

財運亨通 cái yùn hēng tōng – smooth and successful financial luck

馬年行大運 mǎ nián xíng dà yùn – good luck in the Year of the Horse
