Brenton Tarrant, the Australian man convicted of killing 51 Muslim worshippers in the 2019 Christchurch mosque terror attacks, has launched an appeal against his convictions. The 35-year-old former gym instructor, who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life without parole in August 2020, now claims he was unable to make rational decisions due to harsh prison conditions. Tarrant became the first person in New Zealand's history to receive a sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
