Tropical Cyclone Mitchell tracked along Western Australia's Pilbara coast, bringing destructive wind gusts of up to 155 kilometres per hour to Exmouth before moving further south towards Coral Bay and Carnarvon. The system, which was downgraded to a Category 2 before impact and later weakened to a Category 1, caused damage including uprooted trees and left almost a thousand homes without power. Major roads were cut off with flooding risks remaining as the cyclone was expected to make landfall near Carnarvon.
