איתא במשנה "ארבעה ראשי שנים הם" וט"ו בשבט הוא א' מהם. ומזה מובן שהיום צריכים להתבונן – בנוסף להענין המיוחד ד"ראש השנה לאילן" – גם בהענין ד"ראש-השנה" שזהו הצד השווה שביניהם. תוכן ענין ה"ראש" הוא שהוא כולל את החיות של האיברים, וגם הוא המנהיג וה"מלך" על כל האיברים – גם כפי שכל א' מהם הוא במקומו. כמבואר בדא"ח בקשר לראש השנה (א' בתשרי). וזה קשור גם עם זה שבר"ה הוא הזמן ד"תמליכוני עליכם". ובנוגע לר"ה לאילן: איתא בגמ' עה"פ "כי האדם עץ השדה" שזה קאי על ת"ח, ובעצם – כל יהודי הוא "אות" וחלק בתורה, ובמילא "תופס בכולו" – הוא כל התורה. ומזה מובן שבר"ה לאילן הוא הזמן לקבל החלטות טובות על כל השנה להתקשר לתורה ביתר שאת ויתר עז, ולגדול בזה מיום ליום, שזהו הסימן של "צומח" ו"אילן" וכו'. וזה קשור במיוחד עם פ' יתרו (שקורין השבוע), פ' מתן תורה וכו'.

Synopsis

The Mishnah states: “There are four Rosh Hashanas,” one of which is the 15th of Shevat. Since all four are called “Rosh Hashana,” it is understood that they all share the central theme of being a “Rosh Hashana,” a “Head of the year,” and therefore, 15 Shevat is a time a time to reflect not only on the specific theme of the Rosh Hashanah for trees, but also on the concept of Rosh Hashanah in general: The function of the head is that it contains the life-force of all the limbs, and serves as the leader and “king” of the entire body (as also explained in Chassidus in connection with Rosh Hashanah (1 Tishrei), when the Jewish people crown Hashem as King). Regarding the Rosh Hashanah for trees: The Gemara says that the verse “Man is a tree of the field” refers to Torah scholars. And the truth is that because every Jew is a “letter” in the Torah, and “When you grasp part of something’s essence, you grasp its entirety,” every Jew is the entire Torah. From this it is understood that the Rosh Hashanah for trees is a time to take upon oneself positive resolutions for the entire year, to strengthen one’s connection with Torah and to grow from day to day (which is the defining trait of plant-life and trees etc.). This relates particularly to parashas Yisro, in which we read about Matan Torah etc.
