Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has secured a $25 billion public hospital funding agreement with states and territories over five years, ending months of negotiations after an initial $23 billion offer was rejected in December. The deal includes measures to reduce National Disability Insurance Scheme growth to 6% or less, down from 9.5%, and delays the Thriving Kids program for children with autism from July to October. The agreement brings total federal hospital spending to $219 billion over the next five years, with an additional $2 billion allocated to speed up hospital discharge for elderly patients awaiting aged care beds.
