In this episode of 'Editorial', HW News’ Managing Editor Mr. Sujit Nair discusses the possible reasons as to why the Shiv Sena leader Balasaheb Thackeray was not conferred a Padma award while other leaders such as Shibu Soren from Jharkhand and V.S. Achuthanandan from Kerala were selected. Mr. Nair highlights that Balasaheb Thackeray despite belonging to the same Hindutva ideology that the BJP follows, was not considered for a Padma award, whereas leaders from a different ideological spectrum were honored. He argues that the current Modi government is using civilian awards for political purposes. According to him, a possible reason for not selecting Balasaheb Thackeray for a Padma award is that it could strengthen the political prospects of the Thackeray brothers, Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray, in Maharashtra who are political opponents of the BJP.
