Reaching for Agreement: A Prayer

God of love and mercy,

you have called us to be one people—

brothers, sisters, siblings—

knit together in the same mind and the same purpose.

In a world divided by fear and fueled by conflict,

restore the goodwill we have lost with one another.

Where suspicion has taken root, plant trust.

Where fear has crowded out compassion, make room again for love.

Teach us to agree on what matters most:

to feed the hungry,

to care for the sick,

to comfort the distressed,

and to welcome the stranger as neighbor and friend.

When we are tempted to protect ourselves instead of each other,

remind us that we belong to one another.

Give us the patience to listen,

the humility to learn,

and the courage to love beyond our differences.

Knit us together, O God—

not in sameness, but in shared purpose,

so that your love may be seen and known through us.

Amen.
