She has a five-year plan, a spotless apartment in Boston, and zero interest in inheriting her grandmother’s crumbling farmhouse. She wants to sign the deed, sell the chickens, and get back to reality before her latte gets cold.

But Foxglove Hollow doesn't let go that easily.

When a "real estate developer" tries to buy the property, and a naked stranger collapses in her chicken coop, Maribel discovers the family business wasn't farming. It was war.

For two hundred years, the Weathervanes have served as the town's shield against the Shadow Creatures—monsters that feed on fear and thrive in the winter dark. Now the shield is broken, the wards are failing, and the town council is suspiciously eager for Maribel to take her place as the next Keeper.

Stuck with a grimoire that looks like a colonial cookbook, a were-rooster suffering from PTSD, and a sourdough starter that is actively aggressive, Maribel has to make a choice:
