Bettina Selby decided in the summer of 1988 to explore a country that was, on the face of it, far removed from the exotic lands of her foreign travels.She wanted to see for herself what, if anything remained of the England she remembered, and discovered a country as beautiful and unexpected as anything she had come across in remoter parts of the world.
