This sermon explains that all people are spiritually "dead" in sin, just like a dead body, even if they seem like good people on the outside. Spurgeon uses three examples from the Bible where Jesus brought dead people back to life to show how people are at different stages of sin—some are like a girl who just died and still looks good, some are like a young man getting worse, and some are like Lazarus who was rotting in a tomb. The main message is that no matter how far someone has fallen into sin, only Jesus can bring them back to spiritual life through the Holy Spirit, and everyone needs this saving grace to truly live.
A sermon delivered by Charles Spurgeon on April 12, 1857.
