The Australian government's social media ban for under-16s has resulted in 4.7 million accounts being deactivated, removed or restricted across 10 platforms since December 10. The platforms are using age assurance technology including ID checks, facial scans and age inference to comply with the world-leading legislation. The Coalition and anecdotal reports from viewers suggest many young people are circumventing the ban by accessing alternative platforms or finding workarounds.
