Copyrighted works that have been around for a number of years will eventually enter the public domain....meaning anyone can legally use it without having to ask permission or pay royalties. While the rules are different in each country regarding the length of time, in many countries (like the United States and Europe), the time frame is 70 years after the original artist's death, but some works may last for up to 100 years before entering into public domain.
