הוראה ממ"ש [בחמישי דפ' ויצא] "ויפרץ האיש מאד מאד ויהי לו צאן רבות ושפחות ועבדים וגמלים וחמורים": ישנם הטוענים שהצורך להוסיף בלימוד התורה והידור בקיום המצוות וכו' הוא רק ליושבי אהל וכיו"ב אבל אלו העוסקים במשא ומתן ברשות השו"ע ועוסקים ב"צאן רבות עבדים ושפחות גו'" ב"פדן ארם" ‏–‏ להם מותר להתנהג כ"במקומנו" ולהתעסק ב"משא ומתן" ‏–‏ "באמונה"... כמו שה"משא ומתן" דורשת ‏–‏ לוותר "קצת" על האיסור דהשגת גבול... ושאר מיני "היתרים" (כמו שמצינו שישנם ענינים שלא' ה"ז איסור גמור ולשני ה"ז מותר לכתחילה כמו "תלמיד חכם שנמצא רבב על בגדו וכו'" משא"כ עם הארץ) ‏–‏ הנה עליהם לדעת שתכלית שליחותם להתעסק בענינים אלו היא כדי שיהי' "ויפרץ האיש מאד מאד", לעבוד את ה' בשלימות לא רק בהיותם יושב אוהל, אלא גם בעמדם בשוק עם "חמורים וגמלים".

Synopsis

Chamishi of Parashas Vayeitzei states, “The man became exceedingly prosperous; he owned many flocks, maidservants and servants, and camels and donkeys”: Some people think that only “those who dwell in the tents,” meaning those who are fully immersed in Torah and holy matters, are required to increase in Torah study and hidur in mitzvos, etc., while businesspeople, who are involved with “flocks, servants and maidservants” in “Paddan Aram” etc., are permitted to “do what is done in our place” such as compromising “a little” when it comes to encroaching on another’s livelihood and other so-called “leniencies.” (As we find, sometimes something is totally prohibited for one person, while it is totally permissible for another, such as a “stain on a garment” which for a Torah scholar is a chilul Hashem, but not for an unlearned person.) But they must know that the ultimate purpose of their mission in being business is so that “the man become exceedingly prosperous” – to serve Hashem completely, not only while in the tent of Torah and davening, but even while standing in the marketplace among “camels and donkeys.”
