Ameru people of Kenya, in Meru County are the people who practiced democracy even before the Europeans arrived in Africa and particularly in Kenya.
The history of Ameru indicates that they lived in Egypt and they escaped from Egypt after which they meandered in the wilderness of Africa from around AD 745 to find their way to Mboa (Manda Island) in Kenya before AD 1100.
Before their escape from Egypt, they had been among the most advanced people at the time. Their fields of advancement included constructions and leadership, though in their long and epic journey through wilderness, they had lost their expertise in those fields.
By AD 1600’s when they left Mboa (Manda Island) Kenya, they had advanced again in the field of leadership. At the time, they had three arms of Government known as Njurincheke, Mugwe, and Kaura O’Becau (Parliament, Judiciary, and Executive) which they used for their administration long ago.
Ameru since time immemorial have used their proverbs and idioms/riddles to teach and caution their generations and this being our good reason for reproducing them in this book for generations to come. Ameru were guided by wisdom and knowledge contained in their proverbs and idioms. If leaders were to follow that path of wisdom and knowledge, they would never make mistakes that are usually made by young generations today. We therefore, recommend that today’s leaders visit that hub and foundation of wisdom with knowledge to be wiser and knowledgeable in matters of leadership.
Read on to be informed and be wiser! We do guarantee that you will be more knowledgeable after reading this source of knowledge and wisdom of Ameru, Kenya in Africa. We believe that no other community had so numerous proverbs and idioms as a source of knowledge.
