Home Start Butser supported 262 local families last year and their Annual Celebration at Churcher's College, on Wednesday 16 July, was a very emotional affair.

The Chair, Linda Bazant, welcomed people to the celebration with Home Start now in its 27 th Year!

The Mayor, Councillor Chris Paige, presented certificates to volunteers for 10 years service; and thanked all the volunteers for what he said was their "great gift of time."

Lauren, a young mum with three children spoke to the meeting with Dawn, the volunteer matched to her for the last two years; they were a great double act and demonstrated the magic between them in a very productive partnership.

Manager Nicola Winter presented the Audrey Award to 15 year old Joe, for his years of fund and gift raising to make sure all Home Start children have Christmas presents.

The seven part time staff were thanks for all they did.

Last year they raised £149,000 but spent £188,000 (the deficit covered from reserves) so Lucia Smith, the Community Development Coordinator, spoke about the need for fund raising and appealed for support - and volunteers are always needed.

It was a very warm meeting with a great deal to be proud of.
