Hunter’s reflection reminds us that real understanding of Scripture comes from seeing it through Jesus—knowing not only the words, but the transforming power of his resurrection life and love for everyone. TODAY'S DEVOTION: They set a trap, but the trap they set sprung on them. They came to trap Jesus with their questions, but their questions merely revealed that they didn't understand the scriptures or the power of God. That's what Jesus told them. "Your mistake is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God." They were badly mistaken, because to know the Scriptures and to know the power of God is to know Jesus and the power of his resurrection. It's possible to learn all about the Bible—even to have the whole thing memorized—but if you aren't looking at the Scriptures through the person of Jesus, you will be badly mistaken too. You can be very religious, very pious, and still not have the power to love God or to love others. That power is found only in Jesus. God offers us these two things: knowledge and insight into the Scriptures, and power to live a new quality of life. We don't need to pose or pretend any longer, because now we have new life. When we look at the Bible through the lens of Jesus, we realize we aren't coming to God to interrogate him, to try and outsmart him. Instead, we discover that God has already caught us up into his life and his love. Even before we knew it, we were loved by God; while we were still sinners, he gave himself for us. The parable in today’s reading states this plainly: good and bad alike are welcomed into the banquet of God. That is the nature of God’s invitation—open, generous, and radically inclusive. When we view the Scriptures through Jesus, we see what God has done for the whole world, and that we are all included. And so, that's why we remind ourselves of this every day on this podcast: you are loved. No ifs, ands, or buts. That’s just the way it is—because that’s who God is. That's a prayer I have for my own heart today—that I will know this well, know God, know his Scriptures, and know his power. That's my prayer for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
