When Graham Hartman and Lucy Darbly's quiet life is interrupted by the arrival of an alien 'tourist' in the shape of Ka, their lives are changed forever. Initially they have to deal with the suspicions of Lucy's brother, Tony Darbly, who heads up the shadowy department, Section, a covert British intelligence unit operating far outside the usual channels. A series of events lead Tony to believe that Hartman is actually an enemy agent. As events develop, Section itself falls under suspicion as Lucy, Graham and Tony become entangled in a series of mistaken assumptions by the authorities who struggle to understand what is happening. Hartman hosts a presence that is not hostile, and not remotely bound by earthly limits. The central characters are drawn into a web of events with the potential ultimately to reshape humanity. The Traveller is the true beginning of the Angel saga — where the meeting of worlds quietly begins.
