HAVE YOU BEEN FIRED? THAT’S GREAT!
I come back from a Himalayan holiday - only to get a Himalaya-sized shock!
‘WOO HOO’ was the rather unexpected reaction from my girlfriend. ‘THAT’S AWESOME!’
‘Er...What?’
‘NOW YOU WILL HAVE MORE TIME TO TRAVEL AND SEE THE WORLD!’
I take this advice to heart - and do a lot of travelling and writing and so forth…
I travel the length and breadth of India -
the Himalayan heights of Uttarakhand,
the beauty of Kashmir,
A bus ride from Srinagar to Ladakh - in public transport!,
the lost empire of Hampi,
Amazing shore temples of Mahabalipuram
The wonders of Auroville at Pondicherry,
Not one - but two Kumbh melas! Nasik and Ujjain…
The neighbouring nation of Sri Lanka - the ‘Emerald Isle’...
The not-quite-neighboring-but-reasonably-close nation of Thailand…
I write a whole bunch of stuff...short stories... my first full book…
But when is this ‘holiday’ ending? The unemployment period goes on and on for years! AAARGH!
All I have after two years is a whole stack of rejection slips!
But keep your spirits up! Keep the flag flying!
As the saying goes - ‘Illegitimi non carborundum!’ - Don’t let the b*stards grind you down!
When life gives you lemons...make a Mojito!
Travel... Write... Eat tandoori chicken… Drink beer... Run the marathon… (or at least try…)
This is the story of a very long unemployment period - and a very unique adventure.
And it ended happily too! With a miracle!
Reviews:
When you suddenly lose your employment, what do you do? Why you travel of course! The author makes lemonade out of lemons as he uses his new found "leisure time" to travel in India and Thailand. Join the author in another enjoyable travelogue as he visits many historic temples and natural wonders of Asia. You will enjoy the read
Another marvellous read from Ketan - a delight to read and I love his style of writing where he delves into the history of the places he visits. I for one never knew that the influence Ramayana has over the Thailand Kingdom and that Hinduism is widely practised in Indonesia...All his books are a must-read….Keep them coming, Ketan
Funny and Honest .....This book will definitely make others long to travel these places.... specially after the long hiatus on Travel due to this pandemic....While reading it ....my memory of many of these places which I myself had the opportunity to be...came alive. It is simply superb....
Simply unputdownable. Must read - Ketan Joshi strikes again.. and keeps us engaged. As usual a brilliant retelling of travel, this time with real-life lessons. Read this book in one go one. Brilliant, funny, straight from the heart. Don't miss this one. An excellent remedy to blow away your blues, especially in these times of Covid
