In Oakhaven, grief doesn’t just break your heart. It freezes your blood.

Sheriff Robert Carpenter survived the tragic death of his daughter through ruthless clinical detachment. He keeps his world ordered, relying on science, logic, and absolute control to keep the pain locked away. But when a catastrophic concrete mill collapse kills six men in his small Ohio jurisdiction, the limits of his logic are tested.

The dead are returning home for dinner.

When widows begin falling into profound, freezing catatonia, whispering to the empty air in sub-zero living rooms, Carpenter suspects a carbon monoxide leak or a localized mass hysteria. But as industrial thermometers plummet past absolute zero and his deputies are hospitalized with severe internal frostbite, his scientific shield shatters. The impossible is occupying physical space.

These are not souls. They are thermodynamic parasites.

Spawned from the town’s collective trauma, the entities perfectly mimic the deceased. To solidify their mass, they feed on two things: ambient physical heat, and the neurological memory pathways of the grieving families. While the local grief counselor encourages the widows to embrace the miraculous return of their loved ones, she is unwittingly feeding the parasites the cognitive architecture they need to survive. The families are freezing to death, their memories of the dead permanently consumed.

To save the town, Carpenter must break the quarantine and confront the anomaly wearing his own dead daughter's face. To starve the parasite, he must weaponize his deepest trauma and actively reject the only piece of her he has left—before the cold consumes his mind completely.

A chilling, psychologically grounded supernatural thriller where the laws of physics and the depths of human trauma collide.
