What is Scientology? Is it a new religion or a cult that takes advantage of their members? An American author named L. Ron Hubbard founded the Church of Scientology in the 1950s and has grown with over 40,000 members worldwide.
Many governments around the world have described Scientology as a dangerous cult with controversial business practices that is modeled more as business for profit than a religious institution while exploiting their members.
Through out the years, there have been numerous allegations against the organization to include physical violence by top officials against staff members, a disconnection policy for members against friends and family who do not support their ideas, baseless lawsuits against the media and critics of Scientology and defectors criticizing how followers are treated.
There are many Hollywood celebrities that are Scientologist including Tom Cruise and John Travolta with many in the public wondering if they are being extorted by this so-called church to retain these high-profile members.
This is the history of the Church of Scientology from its humble beginnings to a global menace around the world while seen by many as pariah preying on the weak and vulnerable as most religious cults do.
