Resumen del Editor

Margaret Mohrmann has devoted most of her professional life to caring for children, and in Attending Children she shares the remarkable education those children and their families have given her. Her narratives are both painful and hopeful, tragic and funny, full of remarkable characters and sometimes bizarre families. Mohrmann has sifted through her 30 years as a pediatrician, and with poignancy, humor, and uncompromising honesty, she shares her sometimes stumbling but always deeply caring journey through a land where, sometimes, small hands have to be let go too soon. She introduces us to not only the physical challenges she, her colleagues, and her patients encounter, but the spiritual ones as well. Attending Children is a unique experience as Mohrmann takes the listener on a doctor's rounds over many years to meet the faces and the struggles, the heartaches and the joys of being a pediatrician. In the case of Margaret Mohrmann and her patients, no one could ask for better teachers.

Wonderful look at becoming a doctor

"Attending Children is a unique experience as Mohrmann takes the reader on a doctor's rounds over many years to meet the faces and the struggles, the heartaches and the joys of being a pediatrician." I think this is a wonderful book. It shows the heart and soul of a woman becoming a pediatrician. I really enjoyed Margaret Mohrmann doing the narrative too. I was gifted this book with the understanding that I would leave an honest review.

Very interesting

Any additional comments?

This was a very interesting book and I would highly recommend. Medical documentaries can be dull and dry or they can grab your attention and keep you there. This grabbed my attention and I will have to see if Margaret E. Mohrmann MD has other audiobooks available from Audible. I'm not sure if I received this through AudioBookBoom or not but either way is was worth it... I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Don't listen without tissues nearby

I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. Wow, this book is excellent. The author tells the listener about her experience as a pediatrician over several decades. She describes her reasons for writing this book and each story tells both about the patient and how she matured as a doctor as a result of her interactions with patients and families, and her mistakes. Her honesty and self-awareness made me more involved in the book. I listened while driving, and practically had to pull over because I was too emotional. I was disappointed when the book ended. I wanted to hear more. I recommend both author and narrator. Excellent book and performance.

Shocking

Let me start by saying this book is not for the faint hearted. I picked this book thinking as a medical foster mom it would be filled with antidotes from a doctor on children and all they get up to. How absolutely wrong I was. This is a shockingly detailed look at a resident doctors journal into her life becoming a doctor. It is filled with one horrific detailed death after another. Some so gut wrenching I had to stop listen over and over again and take a break of several days from. But because I took this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review I wanted to be fair to both the author and the narrator who Intrusted it to me. The narrative is fine . I had no issue with the tone or delivery of the material given. I can't bring myself to call it a story as these are not stories but real lives and therefore to heartbreaking to be anything less then valued. I rated overall as only a 3 however, because in all fairness it should come with a warning. This book is best suited to a student dr or to people looking to become part of that particular field. For the average person it is just too tragic to sit and listen to one child's death after the other due to various illness or injuries. I cried and had nightmares and felt vulnerable the entire time . It's a book that never has a happy ending. And leaves you feeling haunted. It also makes you look at your children's doctors. All doctors with a lot more compassion and yes I have to say wonderment to what they see everyday and survive.
