Rather than depicting a sentimental image of Christmas, Chekhov paints a picture of the harsh reality faced by many of the poorer members of society during a bitter Russian winter, while still injecting elements of pathos and humour. His wisdom sneaks up on you
I adore Chekhov. You find yourself suddenly going, what did he just say? His subtle wisdom sneaks up on one when they’re least expecting it. It’s a talent few own. He’s one of a kind. A gem of a man worthy of reading, listening, re-reading and re-listening and then doing it again. Each circle reveals different highlights as one moves along in time themselves.
