Percival Everett writes a Murder Mystery?

In the context of Erasure, is it fair to classify this book as Genre Fiction? It sure reads like a Murder Mystery. Obviously different from his other books, but well-crafted.

Simply everett

The narrator is fantastic and truly captures the characteristics of the characters. It makes you feel as if you are present during many of the events. The book's sarcastic tone, combined with straightforward examples during character dialogues, makes it very enjoyable. It follows the same style as other books by this author.

So cliché it’s absurd

While compelling and well written, the ending would have made me throw a real book across the room.
