The author, Bill Patterson, spent his childhood days in the midwestern U.S. and graduated from Missouri University of Science & Technology at Rolla in 1953. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve for 15 years and was a petroleum engineer and economics analyst with Shell Oil Company for 38 years. This collection of stories about growing up in a farm community was written mainly for publication in his hometown newspaper, the Bolivar Herald-Free Press in Bolivar, Missouri.
