Through words and music, Appassionata tells the story of an illicit love affair between immigrants from two cultures, who work in privileged households in a Southern California beach community.
What begins as an innocent flirtation spirals into infatuation, then cascades into destructive passion. It propels the lovers to jeopardize their hard-won jobs and the lives they had so carefully constructed in the United States, ultimately spiraling them into treachery and crime.
Structured after Beethoven’s Sonata #23, Opus 57, known as the Appassionata, the novel uses music as a counterpoint to the written word, as the story weaves the lives of the characters together and apart.

Simply delectable!
Truly, the novel was simply delectable! I wanted to space out my listening, yet I could not wait to listen through the end! The ending was powerful. I loved the details included throughout the novel making the story visually impactful as well as auditorily thrilling. I love the music selected along with the artful weaving of it throughout the story. I shall listen again soon!

Appassionata: a MUST for those who love music, intrigue and writing that draws you in !
Appassionata! What a ride!!!!!!! Carol Doumani slowly, and adeptly, draws you in to her novel filled with everything we love: music, people with all their flaws and idiosyncratic behaviors, sex, passion and wonderful creative writing.
