Rose O'Brien was twenty-one when she buried her third child shortly after birth. The anguish she felt threatened to shatter her. Since she and her husband had come west, luck seemed to have forsaken her.
The small ranch barely produced enough to sustain the family's livelihood. Her relationship with her husband grew increasingly strained as John began drowning his sorrows in alcohol. Moreover, he was often away lately, searching for gold in the mountains like so many other fortune seekers.
Rose was left to fend for herself, desperately struggling to hold onto their property. Until one day, the very thing she had feared in her worst nightmares happened.
Delshay, a young Apache, was twenty-three when he buried his family. It was the White Eyes, ruthless scalp hunters, who had taken everything he had lived for from him. Once again. Now he felt nothing but hatred and the burning desire for revenge. Never again, he swore by Ussen, the god of his people, never again will I know mercy.
