What does a beautiful high school girl have to do with an unattractive and unappealing exchange student from Italy? Yet, a long-lasting friendship begins, despite the objections of a bully who feels he has first claims on this blonde beauty. Bill Lazinski shows prejudice toward Antonio and makes life hard for him. He and his two cronies harass the young Italian, even robbing him of the privilege of being Prom King. Nevertheless, Antonio applies himself to his high school studies and excels in drama and all other subjects he encounters. Sadly, he returns to Italy after graduation, mainly due to Bill's persecution, but also, he does not want to interfere with what he perceives to be a budding romance between Babbs and Bill. But years later, things have changed dramatically. There is a different Antonio, and he returns to the United States to look for Babbs. Things are quite different in her life as well.
