Xavier, a thousand-year-old vampire, was missing. It shouldn't have been possible for someone to hold him, but he was gone. His brother, Koen, has come to New York City, where one of the vampire's enemies has been found, to search for Xavier. They need to stop Claude, who remains a threat, but first, where is Xavier?
He'd been shot repeatedly, but Xavier didn't know why he wasn't dead. All he knew was his first name, told to him by the vicious man who'd kept him prisoner. Now, escaped, Xavier needed to not only know who he was, but what he was...because it was clear...he wasn't exactly normal.
Margot had wandered into the bad part of the city on an impulse to help a woman outside of a five-star restaurant in New York City. She didn't belong there, but a newfound sense of altruism pushes her to seek justice for the assaulted woman. When she gets herself into trouble, an enormous Scotsman comes to her aid. And oh, hell, for a woman with long-term sexual issues, this unexpected hero brings new feelings. Only, he's not quite right, is he?
In New York City, a woman who thinks she has her life planned out discovers that there are more things in this world than can be planned for. A vampire discovers that something he never believed in can change his life.
This is the final story of the First Bloods before we step into the future, and toward the Grand Destiny of the new generation of First Bloods.

The Hero: Xavier - he is a first blood vampire, over 1000 years old. He is also a huge playboy who loves all women. Recently he has been in the United States and he thinks the women there are just about the best in the world. He was caught unaware when Claude shoots him between the eyes. Claude was the guy who had been working for Lamont, the rich guy who had been financing a society against the vampires. Claude was a vampire now also, he had Tamesine, a first blood turn him, and he was still a bit sore that he wasn’t as powerful as a first blood and he was taking out his revenge on Xavier by killing him over and over. Claude shot him in the head so many times, that Xavier lost his memory.
The heroine: Margot - she pulls in six figures a year working at a big New York law firm. The job sucked, but the perks were awesome. She never wanted to need anything from anyone else ever again and her job provided that. She never wanted a man to be responsible for her happiness like her mother had. Her boss’s son Michael Lipnicki was the biggest lech she has ever known. Since his father was away from the firm most of the time now, Michael started using his position to sexually harass Margot. Going so far as to tell her that her job was on the line if she didn’t do what he wanted. After walking out on him in a restaurant, she sees Michael assaulting a street woman who claimed he raped her two nights ago. Margot runs to help the woman after Michael drives away.
The Story: When Xavier escaped from the man who kept shooting him, he struggled to survive and stay hidden from Claude. He discovered things about himself, such as the fact that he was always hungry, he was stronger and faster than most people, and the sun burned the heck out of him. He got a night job cleaning a bar, where he also could eat all the leftovers people left. He also noted that women seemed to really like him, but he stayed away from them. Margot ends up in the bar where Xavier works, still trying to help the street woman, when Michael walks in. She sneaks into the kitchen to watch Michael. That is where she meets Xavier.
The two are immediately attracted to each other. Margot is not used to being drawn to a man like that. Though she is still determined to do something to take down Michael even after the street lady left. She goes after some bad people and Xavier decides to go with her to protect her. I wasn’t sure I liked Margot at this point. She was pretty stupid for being a lawyer. Plus when she explained her sexual hang-ups and how they led her to have very few sexual hookups where the men she was with basically pleased her but she didn’t allow penetration, I liked her even less. It was like she was so afraid of men using her that she used them instead.
I did end up liking both characters much more than I expected. I thought Xavier was kind of funny in previous books, but he was such a man whore that I didn’t think I would like him. So it was a good thing that he lost his memory and became a different person. I really ended up liking him and this book turned out to be one of the best in this series. I give 4 stars when I really like a book, but five stars if I would read it again, and this one I would read again.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view and was narrated in solo narration by Pyper Down. I usually hate solo narration, but I like her voice and she is great with different voices and is able to do so many accents so you can easily tell what character is speaking at any given time. She did a really good job with this book and I have really enjoyed all the audiobooks in this series.
The best of the bunch so far!
