Hildegard Bennet had grown up in an orphanage and had always felt out of place due to the fact that she stood head and shoulders above everyone else. She met Ben Woodman, who barely missed running her over with his wagon, causing her to fall and pick up painful slivers in her hands. When he stops his wagon and gets out to help her up, he is shocked at how much she towers over him. He thought he was tall at his six feet two inches, but she made him feel short at her six feet five or six inches. He agrees to take her home and if they get along well for the next two weeks, they will get married.

Fortunately, Ben agrees to marry her, and they have been married for five wonderful years. They are both looking forward to having a family; however, each month are disappointed when Hildie doesn't get pregnant. Hildie overhears Hester Newson gossiping with several other women after church and when she walks up to the circle of women she hears the gist of their conversation. "If Hildie wasn't so tall or such a prude, she'd allow her husband to have sex with her...and maybe they'd finally have a child or two!" Hildie thought she felt bad about her situation before, but now she's totally crushed!

She's not sure what to do, or which direction to turn...until one day she and Ben discover an Angel from Heaven!
