In the late 1600’s Senora Donna Isabella Cabrera provides a picture of 17th century life in the young colony. She is not above a bit of gossip or the latest scandal as she instructs young colonists on the finer points of Spanish etiquette and shares her recipe for a love potion.
In 1810 Scottish physician Dr. MacDonnell and his family witness the transfer of Florida from Spain to the United States, but along with it comes an epidemic of yellow fever that threatens the new territory and calls for a new burial ground.
Curative baths and pampering treatments are all the rage for the wealthy in the Gilded Age. Fascination with medical bathing and rest cures entices the Douglas family to winter in St Augustine. There they are attended by staff who spend their days and their lives following society’s seasons and foibles and where they find much more than a cure when they take the waters.
