The Prayer of Saint Francis, also known as the "Peace Prayer of Saint Francis," in its current form only dates to around 1912, although it is usually associated with the Franciscan friar, or monk, Saint Francis of Assisi (1182-1226). The extensive use of the pronouns I and We, with no mention of God or Christ would not be characteristic of the humble friar from Spoleto, Italy. The prayer is believed to have been first published in the French magazine La Clochette in 1912.
