Acerca de esta escucha
In January of 1934, Admiral Richard E. Byrd began an Antarctic expedition that would change his life forever. Already a celebrated explorer, Byrd's expeditions were media sensations on radio and film. On this trip, Byrd had an audacious undertaking in mind: manning a weather station alone, miles from the American base along the coast, through the harsh Antarctic winter. The solitude would bring enlightenment and personal reckoning for Byrd as he struggled to survive the bitter -70 degree temperatures. "This book is the account of a personal experience," Byrd begins. "so personal that for four years I couldn't bring myself to write it." Despite Byrd's reluctance, the book is a riveting account of survival and endurance.
This version of Alone is fully produced with a soundscape of music and atmospheric effects to place you right there with Admiral Byrd through this harrowing adventure. Many voices fill in the other characters that interact with Byrd as he launches his expedition, speaking with him over the shortwave radio. The experience is reflective, beautiful, and gripping. Alone is a survival tale like no other.

Historia
Although less well known than his famous flight over the North Pole, Admiral Richard E. Byrd's adventures in Antarctica are just as remarkable. Wide-eyed youngsters will feel the excitement and danger as they learn about the isolated and tight little manned station where Byrd lived, separated from his crew; the temperatures that plunged to 60 degrees below zero; and Byrd's brush with death when a small stove he needed to keep warm - and stay alive - filled the air with carbon monoxide.

In this audiobook, Bernard claims that flying saucers not only exist, but that they are the vehicles of a super-race that lives in a huge, underground world, whose entrance is at the Earth's north and south poles. In essence, the Earth is really a fat donut, with little holes at the top and bottom. The seawater and geographical forms stay in place as the surface of the donut curves inward and upside down, held in place by gravity.

Historia
In August 1897, the young Belgian commandant Adrien de Gerlache set sail for a three-year expedition aboard the good ship Belgica with dreams of glory. His destination was the uncharted end of the earth: the icy continent of Antarctica. But de Gerlache’s plans to be first to the magnetic South Pole would swiftly go awry. After a series of costly setbacks, the commandant faced two bad options: turn back in defeat and spare his men the devastating Antarctic winter, or recklessly chase fame by sailing deeper into the freezing waters.

Historia
In 1528, a mission set out from Spain to colonize Florida. But the expedition went horribly wrong: Delayed by a hurricane, knocked off course by a colossal error of navigation, and ultimately doomed by a disastrous decision to separate the men from their ships, the mission quickly became a desperate journey of survival. Of the 300 men who had embarked on the journey, only four survived - three Spaniards and an African slave.

Riveting Audiobook
I first discovered this memoir decades ago on a dusty library shelf while a polar vortex roared through the upper Midwest. Admiral Byrd's diary is the perfect fireside read and I have returned to the book every time the temps dip below zero. This year I tried the Audible version, and it takes the experience one step further. The narrator really connects with Byrd's personal voice and the sound effects lick through the track subtly. The distant yowls of the huskies, the howl of the wind, quaver softly in the background just enough to give you the shivers. Byrd's words remain foremost. It all amounts to a really engaging radio play. Grab the popcorn!

background
I can't continue listening because of the sound effects. They are so distracting I cannot concentrate on the story.
