Perfect for the Holiday Season

H. L. Macfarlane's "All I Want for Christmas Is a Faerie Assassin?!" is a whimsical and enchanting tale that brings together the magic of Christmas and the allure of faerie folklore.

After several attempts at finding a decent boyfriend, all Charlotte Connors wants is a guy willing to be her pretend boyfriend for the holidays. Since one is hard to find, she decides to conjure a faerie. And the spell worked, only …the said faerie is an assassin and not at all nice; good looking, but annoying. Still, they come to an agreement that would benefit both Charlotte and Bain – our faerie.

A perfect read for the winter season, Christmas is at the center of all themes. Charlotte doesn’t want to be alone on this special day. She wants her love story, but also she doesn’t want to go to her family’s Christmas dinner with another douche. Unfortunately, the faerie she called for is not far from it either. At least he’s very good looking and willing to pretend. All throughout the book we see the Christmas lights, preparing for end of the year parties, shopping for gifts and the perfect dress for New Year. It gives out that holiday warmth and cheer.

Among all the coziness, the author also raises awareness about harassment at the office, with our main character’s boss creeping on her and insisting for a date. All seems innocent and she doesn’t take his actions as more than what they appear.

Both characters are a delight. They are perfect for each other. She is cute and innocent, but knows how to stand her ground in front of Bain. She’s not willing to put up with his mood and somehow manages to crack the walls he’s hiding behind. Bain looks completely out of place in the human world. Annoyed for being summoned and forced to interrupt his sleep, he sees the opportunity to get his revenge on a contract gone wrong in his past. It was nice seeing his defenses crumble for Charlotte.

The writing was engaging and vivid, painting a magical world that feels both familiar and extraordinary. The author managed to balance light-hearted moments with deeper themes of love, friendship, and self-discovery. I would have wanted an epilogue though, as I was left wondering how will the two make their relationship work between the two realms.

The narration was beautiful as well! Broghanne Jessamine did a wonderful job interpreting Charlotte and her emotions, as well as Bain’s moods and grumpiness. The British accent does not make it for a difficult read at all, on the contrary. Considering that the action is in UK’s London, it is only fitting. Congratulations for a great job!

Overall, "All I Want for Christmas Is a Faerie Assassin?!" is a charming and delightful story that will leave readers with a smile on their faces and a warm feeling in their hearts. It's a must-read for anyone looking to add a bit of magic to their Christmas reading list. I loved it and I loved the cozy feelings I was left with at the end.

started cozy, ended... not

This one started off cozy, and had mostly cozy vibes, but towards the end it became.. not cozy. I enjoyed most of the book, regardless of the tropes I am not fond of, but the ending was.. not for me.

Very cute book with twist

This book was a very good book. Had a cute vibe and had a good twist. Did feel like the ending was fast and wanted more of the ending. Wanted more of the side characters storyline

Fun

What a fun book. Charlotte accidentally summons a faerie assassin to be her fake boyfriend for the holidays. What crazies could result. I thought it was interesting the connection between Charlotte's ex and Bain, you have to read the book to see what it was. I enjoyed this plot it was an engaging holiday read.

The narration was great, it brought life to the characters. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Be Careful What You Wish For

I was entertained by this story. I thought the setting was fabulous as the story took place in London during the Christmas season. I liked Charlotte Connors as she was a typical, modern-day girl who only wanted a date for the holiday season. Although Bain was not really my idea of the perfect date, the more I listened to his story, the more I liked him. I enjoyed their tumultuous relationship. I appreciated Broghanne Jessamine's narration as her performance added to the characters' realism. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Very interesting book

I liked this mainly because it started out like a normal predictable story but then ended with a different kind of ending so it was an enjoyable listen that I fully recommend

A FUN QUICK STORY ABOUT A YOUNG WOMAN WHO SUMMONS A FAIRY FOR A BOYFRIEND FOR CHRISTMAS AND ENDS UP WITH A FAIRY ASSASSIN. THE BOOK DOES HAVE SOME HEAT. BUT IT WAS A FUN LISTEN. NARRATOR DID A FANTASTIC JOB!

Original and Entertaining!

I liked this romantic comedy novella! Charlotte and Bain's opposites attract romance is original, cute, fun, and entertaining. Broghanne Jessamine did a great job bringing this story to life. i enjoyed it. #StoryOrigin

Fun, Holiday Story!!

This is a fun holiday read (that doesn't need to be read during the holiday)! Charlotte has had a bad run of boyfriends, either cheating on her or just being terrible, and she really wants a date (who isn't a terrible person) for her sister's Boxing Day party. So when her grandmother sends an old storybook, she reminisces about her childhood reading them, and decides that summoning a date to the party would be a good idea. And a hungover fae assassin arrives. The scenes and the banter between the two was fun, plus the date (it was adorable!).
This is a fairly quick/read listen. The narrator is new to me, and she does a lovely job with all the characters and differentiating voices from the narrating voice to Lottie's/Bain's voices. I listened at 1.2x speed.

I'd love to meet these characters again! They were such fun to read!
There's a bit of swearing in this story, and a little bit of steam-adjacent, but it's mostly closed door otherwise. It's mostly lighthearted, but there are some heavier moments.

Sweet Novella with Delightful Twists

The story is fast-paced with laugh out loud moments. Plus the narrator did so well bring the characters of the fae realm and our own to life! Great story for those who are looking to feel good this holiday season!
