Resumen del Editor

Today, many decisions that could be made by human beings, from predicting earthquakes to interpreting languages, can now be made by computer algorithms with advanced analytic capabilities.

Every day we make millions of decisions, from selecting a life partner, to organizing your closet, to scheduling your life, to having a conversation. However, these decisions may be imperfect due to limited experience, implicit biases, or faulty probabilistic reasoning.

Algorithms can better predict human behavior than trained psychologists and with much simpler criteria. Studies continue to show that the algorithms can do a better job than experts in a range of fields.

Artificial intelligence is reshaping health care, science, engineering, and life. The results will make our lives more productive, better organized, and essentially much happier.

Everywhere you look, artificial intelligence is beginning to permeate all types of industries, and expectations are that it will continue to grow in the future.

Imagine the possibilities:

  • More accurate medical diagnoses.
  • Better military strategies that could save lives.
  • Detect abnormal genes in an unborn child.
  • Predict changes in weather and earthquake.
  • Safer self-driving cars that have learned your personal preferences.
  • Analyze DNA samples and identify potential medical risks.
  • Smart homes that will anticipate your every needs.
  • Predicting where cyber hackers and online threats may occur.

Now, you might look at this title and shy away, thinking that a book with "algorithms" in its title must be just for techies and computer scientists. However, this book is very accessible to those with no background in computer science.

In fact it is a must-listen for anyone interested in what our digital future looks like.

Join the future.

Made Algorithms Interesting!

To make the subject matter of Algorithms interesting for the beginner is a feet all on its own. I thought it was really good and gave me a better idea of basic concepts and what’s to come in the future.

Good One & Accessible

This book is a well written book on algorithms using plain English. Some of the hard concepts are madde easy to understand. Thanks!

Good layman’s overview

Good book to provide foundation information regarding algorithms and their utilization in our increasingly technical world. There were a few noticeable editing errors (skipping, restarting sentences, etc.) and the narrator could have a little more personality, however I learned quite a bit and can say it was worth my time to listen.

**I received this book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.**

Great book

This was a great book. I am quite new to this so it took me a while. But it was all interesting and new to me. If your curious about computer programming, future technology or math then read it.

Jumped in Too Early to the Technical Material

The premise and the promise of the book was exciting, but the book started with an overview of algorithms, but moved quickly into samples that seemed disparate and I couldn't quite keep up with the point of the story. I would have a better grasp if I had an eBook or print book to go to, but they seem unavailable. The book has a great cover and a great blurb, but the dive into the book is not as organized and does not flow as well as the outline promises. Add a narrator who has little inflection, and it makes for a listen that it not really suitable for the general public, someone would need to at least understand basic computer programming to identify variables, logic, and syntax and understand the seeming paradox that x = x + 1 has meaning for example. I would hope the authors might add a primer or a the kind of bootstrap program Allen wrote for the Altair to make sure the program he and Gates wrote would upload properly. Framing the introduction with vivid examples and stories that mirrored their blurb would go a long way in keeping the reader engaged.

Discover the Artificial Intelligence

I found the hands-on tips to commence trying various things with bots very valuable, and the description of the significant organizations' AI exercises was very educational.

It's all bad

The product is bad:
The performance needs editing. Errors like phone notifications, repetition, and other issues from a one take attempt are in this product. I do feel that monotonic and erroneous inflections are completely acceptable for subjects like this. The material is tricky and there are few publications that resonate with me, so I give a two star overall rating to a one star product. Bluntly, this audio book would have been better if produced with a screen reader.
The content is bad:
For me, an algorithm is a sequence of operations. This sequence and the operations are developed through progressive generalizations. This book does not actually address such processes. The book, in general, seems to have a random collection of thoughts, in an odd order, followed by a Wikipedia rabbit hole of on AI publications. While there are some curious indications that the author has seen some TLA specs, there is no further content indicating the author understands the relationship between the spec and operational sequencing. This is annoying, since I am paying for information on such sequencing. Considering that I may have misunderstood the title and sample clip, I am willing to consider this product as a kind of treatise on AI. Unfortunately, there is no exploration of activation functions, feedback systems, regression methods or any other concepts that I consider AI focused.
I would like both my time and money back.
