Resumen del Editor

Bloomsbury presents Against the Tide by Roger Scruton and Mark Dooley, read by Kris Dyer.

The definitive edition of the late Sir Roger Scruton's philosophical and political essays and reviews, now collected in one volume, edited by Mark Dooley.

The philosopher Roger Scruton was the leading conservative thinker of the post-war years. In this audiobook are assembled the very best of his essays and commentaries, arranged thematically. The selection has been made and edited by Mark Dooley, Scruton’s literary executor.

Throughout this collection, Scruton proves himself to be at his most scintillating and controversial. He writes with passion and conviction about such varied topics as feminism, racism, fascism, Tony Blair, Jeremy Corbyn and Donald Trump and takes aim at those who defy conservative common sense in favour of liberal falsehoods.

This audiobook shows Scruton at his most brilliant and demonstrates how his influence will remain strong and enduring.

Precient opinions which used to be controversialist hot-takes and have aged poignantly over the decades

...like public sentiment of public school teachers won't change unless the do something like not teach for a year or more! ...written in the 80s

Other typical Scruton things like voicing an intellectual argument for notions or feelings I hold but couldn't, until now, describe why; wit & insight; touching human moments (especially toward the end).
It is pleasing that the performer sounds like the author. I appreciate his longer pauses between paragraphs and the fact that he understands and entones structure of the sentences...and the sentences in the argument of the paragraph. (not all philosophical readers do this).
He delivers with appropriate wit and cheek!
