Resumen del Editor

Acclaimed author Emma Newman returns to the captivating universe she created in Planetfall with a stunning science fiction mystery where one man's murder is much more than it seems.

Gov-corp detective Carlos Moreno was only a baby when Atlas left Earth to seek truth among the stars. But in that moment, the course of Carlos' entire life changed. Atlas is what took his mother away; what made his father lose hope; what led Alejandro Casales, leader of the religious cult known as the Circle, to his door. And now, on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Atlas' departure, it has something to do with why Casales was found dead in his hotel room - and why Carlos is the man in charge of the investigation.

To figure out who killed one of the most powerful men on Earth, Carlos is supposed to put aside his personal history. But the deeper he delves into the case, the more he realizes that escaping the past is not so easy. There's more to Casales' death than meets the eye - and something much more sinister to the legacy of Atlas than anyone realizes.

good book, great voice actor

good story with a very immersive world that feels very flushed out. Really though, the voice actor brings it to life. Plenty of emotion comes through at just the right parts and the different voices he uses are enough to be distinctive but not so much to be offputting. I would solidly recommend.

Amazing story, beautifully read.

If you haven't experienced an Emma Newman book, you're missing amazingness. Get Planetfall before this one but then definitely get this one. Gut-wrenching and gorgeous and written with real talent and hunanity. Don't miss it.

Not for everybody, but I loved it

While I can see how this sort of narrative wouldn't appeal to everyone, I found the inner world of the main character engaging and interesting, and a good driver for the story that we were hearing about the larger world. Can't wait to read Atlas Alone.

Another Winner from Emma Newman

'After Atlas' has the same pacing as 'Planetfall', which is deliberate, rather than plodding. Also like 'Planetfall', it is more of a character study, without an abundance of action sequences. If you're looking for something along the lines of 'Warhammer', look elsewhere.

I love being inside Carlos's head - he has a fascinating Mindscape, still processing a storied and traumatic youth decades later. That's well because the entire narrative is told in the first person by Carlos. The only part of the narrative I did not enjoy was how Carlos keeps referring to technology he is using interns of how advanced it is from today's technology. Most people don't think in terms of how far technology has advanced every time they use mundane tools. Fortunately, this stops about halfway through the novel.

Andrews Kingston has an unassuming, low-key, dulcet voice, perfect for the brooding Carlos. However, for some reason he gives Carlos a halting pattern to his speech - even in his thoughts - I find slightly disconcerting. American voices, especially female ones, are a bit whiny, but it's better than the breathy, monotone whispers a lot of low alto and baritone performers use for female voices.

Will definitely head on over to the next in the series.

Mystery with future tech

Not normally a murder mystery fan but this was good with lots of unexpected twists.

Slow Start - Don't Judge Too Quickly

This book starts off a bit slow but it is worth sticking with it. it turned out to be good and the narrator did a great job. cliff hander at the end? of course.

I’d read the Planetfall novel, but was not ready for this…

For a book almost entirely written in expository format, it carried an strong emotional impact. The first indicator or the bleakness came when the narrator details the destruction of the “toy” that saved his life when his father was too lost to care for him at 6 years of age.
