The last thing Tessa Rogers needs or wants, is a hero.

When single mom Tessa's apartment burns down, she's left with nothing but ashes and nowhere to go.

Hunky firefighter Damon Jackson has been battling depression since his wife's passing, but he still has an enormous heart and offers Tessa and her daughter a place to stay.

Neither of them is looking for a relationship, but the proximity has them quickly falling for one another, flaws and all.

Tessa always promised herself she'd never fall for a firefighter-not after losing her dad to that heroic profession. And Damon is afraid to open his heart again.

Will she be able to help Damon, or will the depression and grief be too much?

Contains mature themes.

The self angst & angst between the characters was just painfully awkward. Usually the male narrator can save a story for me but not this time

I stopped listening with 2.5 hours left to go

By the title and cover image, I expected this to be at least hot. It is very far from that. The few sex scenes are repetitive, pretty clinical and don’t really mesh with the rest of the book.
The main characters are OK. The woman is the stereotypical devoted mother. Nothing wrong with that, but also nothing special about this particular person. The guy is sweet and generous, grieving man.
The important events are far fetched. Is it really normal to show up at a firefighter’s home to thank him, if you don’t know each other? (spoiler alert) The whole custody story is also not very believable.
The dialogue is ridiculously cheesy, especially the inner monologue. We get detailed accounts of days when nothing happens. Many times we get that from both perspectives: nothing happens and here is how he feels about it, for 5 minutes, then here is what she thinks on the same un-event, for another 5 minutes.
There is no good reason to waste time on this book. The first 2 chapters and last 2 chapters are more than enough. Nothing significant happens in between. It isn’t even uplifting or entertaining.

Too long for mostly nothing going on. Misleading title and cover
