Angelina, a foreign high-tech security contractor, is kidnapped and subjected to a bizarre arrest in Mexico, made without charges or warrant, opening a small peephole into the plight of poor women in Mexican prisons. While Mexico has recorded over 250,000 murders since 2007, as the newly fragmented cartels battle the military and each other, it is the civil population that largely pays the consequences. “Bullets as ballots” and “Silver or Lead” are the national slogans reflecting the constant terror in which people live. Legal assistance is expensive, out of reach for these poor women. Over 13,000 poor Mexican women imprisoned today on minor or false drug charges.
