This episode was a great reminder of the dangers of pedestalising people and seeking validation from external entities, in particular those with large social media followings. No one is more valuable than anyone else. Stuart did a great job examining this from all angles including as a friend, a follower and as a social media presence himself. He emphasized the importance of being well grounded in ourselves so we can show up authentically in our relationships, and more importantly handle rejection in a way that we can use it for self development. Not everyone will like us, not everyone has to. And that’s ok, that doesn’t diminish our inherent self worth. It’s also unfair to the person in question to put all that expectation on them. Stuart kept this discussion moving, relatable and sprinkled in a few trademark waffles. This is a good episode if you have any friends or connections in the social media world, definitely have a listen.
