Adanna dreams of reaching the stars, her heart set on working at NASA. But her dreams grind to dust the day her father dies, leaving her vulnerable to a fate she cannot escape. Married off to Chief Arinze Nsofor, a man old enough to be her father. She enters a life that quickly becomes a nightmare.

What she endures over the next two decades defies imagination. The walls of her husband’s home hold unspeakable horrors, the kind of pain that words cannot fully capture. She is silenced, stripped of her identity, and forced to bury her dreams under the weight of survival.

Then one day, Chief Nsofor is found murdered. The news shocks the community, and the finger-pointing begins. Who killed Chief? Could it be his children, angered by years of neglect? An enemy seeking vengeance? Or could it be Adana, the wife who has endured unimaginable cruelty. But as secrets unravel, so does the story of a woman determined to survive, no matter the cost.

In this riveting story of resilience, Adanna’s life unfolds – a haunting reminder of the strength it takes to survive, the cost of freedom, and the courage it takes to dream again.

Adanna went through so much and still couldn't catch a break. It ended so abruptly I didn't know if it had ended. I don't know how I feel about how her life went. it's like the calamities shall never end. the AI read was probably the only way I would get to read this book but it was poor when it came to the language so I'm sure I missed out a lot. Though I understand Igbo it was hard to make out atimes.

The long suffering wife

Though strong DV and SA themes I couldn’t help but keep engaged in the story. The narration of this book was. HUGE disservice to Igbo culture, I found it hard to make out even simple words in Igbo. That aside, it was certainly a story worth listening to!

The story was captivating!

interesting story, wish a Nigerian read the book as the AI pronunciation made the book difficult to follow.

I was in awe at how traumatic this book was from page 1 until the very end. I would have rated it 4 stars if not for the AI narrator. The Igbo language is unique and complex and the robotic pronunciations of key words is confusing. Hearing “M-B-A” instead of Mmba and “Ne-ee” instead of Nne, etc. is distracting. As for the story, what a chaotic plot. Ultimately, Adanna found happiness in some aspects but was it worth it? Only the reader can determine. This isn’t one I would re-read because of the trauma.

A triggering, multi-layered story.
