Acerca de esta escucha
After leaving behind the routines of work life, Kevin Ryan sets out on a 4,000-mile journey by bicycle across America to discover who he is after a fulfilling and busy career. From the charming small towns of New England to the vast, rugged landscapes of the Rocky Mountains, this inspiring memoir captures not only the physical adventure but also the deeper, more personal quest for a renewed sense of purpose.
Starting at Boston Harbor and pedaling through Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Ohio, South Dakota, Wyoming, and beyond to the Pacific Coast of Oregon, the author and his wife, Cheryl, find themselves navigating more than just the scenic roads. As they meet fellow adventurers, kind strangers, and far-flung friends, Kevin realizes that this journey is about connection, growth, and transformation. As the miles tick by, so do the challenges—wildfires, accidents, and unforeseen obstacles that push him closer to the person he wants to become in this final third of life. Through it all, he reflects deeply on lessons learned, relationships, retirement, and the meaning found in every twist of the road.
Across a Continent; Across a Life is more than a travel memoir; it's a story of resilience, reinvention, and the ongoing pursuit of joy. For those seeking a path to new beginnings, deeper connections, and a renewed sense of purpose, this memoir is a reminder that life’s greatest adventures often begin when we think our journey is over.

Historia
The Canadian North is a vast and lonely land where bears roam free, fires rage unchecked, and storms blast every living thing on the tundra. When Stephan Kesting, already no stranger to pushing his own physical limits, was faced with a rare illness, he knew the only way for him to recover in both body and mind was to dig even deeper. Despite the dangers inherent in the sub-arctic, Kesting sets out on an unimaginably difficult journey.

Historia
At age sixteen Sophie Strand—bright, agile, fearless—is suddenly beset by unexplained, debilitating illness while on a family trip abroad. Her once vibrant life becomes a tangled miasma of medication, specialists, anaphylaxis, and seemingly never-ending attempts to explain what has gone so terribly wrong. And, for many years thereafter, Sophie's life becomes subsumed with ideas not of "health," but of explanation, and the narrative of how and why she became sick. But slowly, she comes to another, more fundamental understanding of what has happened to her body.

Historia
Philip Norman’s biography of the Beatles is the definitive work on the world's most influential band—a beautifully written account of their lives, their music, and their times. Now brought completely up to date, this epic tale charts the rise of four scruffy Liverpool lads from their wild, often comical early days to the astonishing heights of Beatlemania, from the chaos of Apple and the collapse of hippy idealism to the band's acrimonious split.

Historia
Imagine you could hold a baby hare and bottle-feed it. Imagine that it lived under your roof and lolloped around your bedroom at night, drumming on the duvet cover when it wanted your attention. Imagine that, over two years later, it still ran in from the fields when you called it and slept in your house for hours on end and gave birth to leverets in your study. For political advisor and speechwriter Chloe Dalton, who spent lockdown deep in the English countryside, far away from her usual busy London life, this became her unexpected reality.

Historia
As Charles Strobel, beloved Nashville priest and champion of the unhoused, reached the end of his life in 2023, he began to contemplate the last message he wanted to leave his family, friends, and community. With the help of his niece, Katie Seigenthaler, and his colleague, Amy Frogge, Strobel began to dictate The Kingdom of the Poor. He wrote, “Mark Twain, the great American folk hero and writer, has said, ‘The two most important days of your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.’ The following pages help to explain why I was born.”

Historia
Laurie Lee Hall’s growing-up years were defined by the conflict between her physical condition as a boy and her inherent identity as a girl. Unable to explain or resolve her gender dysphoria, she committed to living her adult life as a male. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, eventually becoming chief architect of its temples and an ecclesiastical leader. In her church and community, rigid adherence to gender roles is not only the norm, but the defining issue of a faith that doctrinally declares one’s gender as an “eternal identity.

Heartwarming and motivating
Having any book narrated by the author is an experience-enhancer, and this audiobook is no exception. A wonderful book, beautifully-read, an experience not to be missed. You’ll smile and maybe laugh out loud, and might even need to wipe your eyes a bit. A book for our times, full of hope for what might be, no matter your age.

Great Listen!
It was fun to listen to this book for a number of reasons: 1 we know the author, 2 many of the people mentioned and #3 we are about to embark on our own journey across America (with horses)!
