Abelard Hassam di Chirico Flint - Abel, for short - is a rich and silly mouse. He spends most of his days just having fun, going to picnics with his wife, playing croquet with friends, and dancing at parties. Unlike most other mice, Abel has never had to work for anything. All that changes one blustery fall day when his wife’s scarf flutters away in a gust of wind. Abel races off to rescue it and is swept away in a rainstorm. Good Book

My son, had to read this as part of his summer packet. He enjoyed it and write a good report about the book. I can see why, it was a Newberry Honor book. I like the author's style of writing, made me feel as if I was right there with Abel.

Slayed the book super cute too

The book is so cute it slayed, not to mention that it was about a mouse ratatouille vibes

Awww I love Abel's Island. Just like I remembered

I loved listening to the narration of Abel's Island! So cute and love how he never lost hope. Such a great story. I remember reading this book when I was a kiddo and now listening to it I was able to understand it a lot better.

I read this book as a child and it was great to reminisce with the story. Excellent writing and narration.

Lovable from Start to Finish

The frog is my favorite part. I laughed aloud at his antics! I aaked myself if so could survive or even thrive as Abel did.

Charming story, wonderfully read

William Steig's classic story of an idle, shallow gilded-age mouse who finds himself while marooned on an island is given a near-perfect reading by George Guidall.

I love this book, I would read it when I was young and I am glad to have found it in audible .

A Perseverant Little Mouse

3.5 stars for Abel's Island. This story about a mouse who gets swept away from his home in a storm was cute. I am guessing I was not the target audience on this but it was well written and Abel is a charming and worthy protagonist as he perseveres to get home.
