Will be a modern spiritual classic

I didn’t think books like this could be written anymore! Spiritually nourishing- like a good meal. Funny. Earnest. And full of wonder. Eastern Orthodox in posture- it made this Anglican feel welcomed and brought along for the journey.

Better than being there

In the throes of spiritual anguish inherent of our modern, individualistic lives, there is a deep-seated desire to escape to an environment that is more "sane." A place where the mind and body can heal through prayer, ascetic practices, physical labor, and liturgy. Unfortunately, our responsibilities do not allow many of us to retreat to these places, and instead, we must settle with the pieces brought back to us by those who can.

Spruce Island, and specifically St. Michael's Skete on that island, is such a place. And in his book, A Year in the Company of Angels, the author Anthony Linderman brings us on his year long pilgrimage there.
