'Warm, cozy, and eminently hopeful' OLIVIA ATWATER
What if love is the best magic of all?
A witch has a second chance to get her magical powers - and her life back on track in this feel-good, whimsical new cozy fantasy from the author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches.
Once, Sera Swan was one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her powers, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her Guild. Now she helps Jasmine run an enchanted inn in Lancashire, where she deals with their quirky guests' shenanigans and longs for a future that seems lost. Until she finds about an old spell that could restore her power . . .
Enter Luke Larsen, handsome magical historian, who might have the key to unlocking the spell's secrets. Luke has no interest in the inn's madcap goings-on, and is even less interested in letting a certain bewitching innkeeper past his walls. So no one is more surprised than he is when he agrees to help.
Running an inn, reclaiming lost power, and staying one step ahead of the watchful Guild is a lot for anyone, but Sera is about to discover she doesn't have to do alone - and that love might be the best magic of all.©2024 Sangu Mandanna
Reseñas de la Crítica
This is one of my coziest reads of the last year, and I find myself thinking about its enchanted setting all the time

A cozy tale about the powerful alchemy of believing we are worthy of the family we find. Full of charm, wit, romance, and an affirmation that we are all deserving of love and real magic

An effervescent stunner

Much like its enchanted inn, A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping welcomes in the weary reader with gentle charm and profound kindness. This book is a magical, heartfelt tale that leaves you feeling just a little bit more whole
Warm, cozy, and eminently hopeful, A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping is the comfort read of the year, and an instant favorite
Magical in every sense, not just the spell-casting kind! Sangu Mandanna uses her signature whimsical writing to tell a story filled with love, heart, and hope, where every character is unapologetically themselves and good always triumphs. Without shying away from the tougher realities of life, Mandanna somehow captures the essence of everyday magic-the magic we find in the love of our friends and family
Found family, a talking fox, a quaint inn in an English village - it's like this book was written just for me. Mandanna somehow writes existential crises like a warm hug
A lush and comforting story
This whimsical tale is at once action-packed and extremely cozy
A celebration of found family and second chances, Sangu Mandanna's cosy read is the perfect addition to your summer reading list
As cosy, fun and touching as I expected it would be. Mandanna has become an author who seamlessly delivers a hug in a book. A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping is a tale that will make you feel cosy, warm and comforted
Sangu Mandanna writes cosy fantasy the way it was meant to be written, deeply inclusive and full of heart
Funny, cozy, heart wrenching, romantic, and Just Right in every way, this is a story to treasure
Utterly delightful! A Witch's Guide to Magical Innkeeping is a cosy hug of a novel with the perfect amount of bite. Mandanna's characters never fail to capture my heart and this eclectic bunch of misfits were no exception (there's even a talking fox and a zombie chicken!). Truly the perfect book to curl up on the couch with

However I think it’s fair to provide an honest review and as always, we all have differing opinions.
This book was such a huge disappointment after The Secret Society of Irregular Witches. If you’ve come to read reviews of this book as you’re thinking of purchasing after loving the first book, I wouldn’t.
The story was very all over the place and just too many situations that didn’t make sense. Without providing any spoilers - I have to mention how ridiculous the first plot point was. The aunt dies out of nowhere (this is in the blurb), she protects the fox who she’s only known for a few weeks? It only continues to get more silly.
The romance is so boring. In the first book, the romance was almost electric and so well done. It almost feels like the romance in this story is written by someone else who sort of understands how to write similarly and but is missing something. I’m not suggesting all books should be written exactly the same but the writing in this book is nowhere near as good.
I found the characters sweet but fairly one dimensional and the plot timeline was bizarre. Nothing happens for ages and then things all happen at once or not at all.
I have to mention how loathsome I found the fox. Just the weirdest character arc - no redemption at all really because she was just so awful.
The writing in this book feels rushed as if the success of the first book propelled the publisher to push the author to quickly pump out another success. I have absolutely no idea how the literary world works however this is how it feels to me.
I will still read subsequent books from this author as I just absolutely adored The Secret Society of Irregular Witches however I definitely won’t be preordering again.
This was hugely disappointing
