Resumen del Editor

A classic pulp space adventure

From the ruins of Stonehenge to the starships of Vallon he sought the secret of a trace of memory. When the man named Legion signed on as a soldier of fortune, he did not expect to end up as the master of a private island, nor to cower in ancient druid pits, nor fight for his life in the great hall of Okk-Hamiloth on a planet galaxies away.

Keith Laumer, the master storyteller of interstellar adventure, sweeps you through time and space in this epic novel of retribution.

Fun, action filled story with a lousy performance.

The main character, Legion, is a graduate from the University of Illinois with a degree in Music. He is also an Army veteran. The narrator gives Legion the voice of an uneducated slum character. The voice for Foster is not much better.
The performance almost ruined one of my favorite books that I first read in the 1960s.
This book has a ton of action and I loved the Stonehenge tie-in.

Narration Ruined It

I liked the plot of this story it was interesting and unique, but the narration just didn't follow through it was almost comical but not in a good way. I received this book for free upon my request. I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased review here of my own volition.

A Favorite

Been a Keith Laumer fan since I was a kid. A Trace of Memory is my favorite of the whole lot. Down and out Legion teams up with Foster (a man with amnesia) to find his identity and instead has an amazing adventure. The story ranges from Stonehedge to Valon, the capital of a mighty space faring race who have lost their way. And for the people of Valon, old age is a virus which they have cured. The previous recording of this story was bad and changed readers mid stream. Nevertheless, I liked it. This new edition is great. I liked the book so much I always had multiple copies. Still do. It is one of my favorite airplane books. That is, it is light reading and perfect for a cross country trip where you need something to read to pass the time. Laumer's dry humor helps the story along. Too bad they do not have more of his work available. This story is one of his best.

A good story ruined by a comically bad reading

The narrator chose to voice characters in comically silly ways, with groan-worthy accents and goofy inflections. Yes, it's a classic pulp sci-fi sort of yarn and not terribly serious, but it's a fun story and deserved better than this treatment.
