Resumen del Editor

How would you live if you knew the day you'd die?

Parvin Blackwater believes she has wasted her life. At only 17, she has one year left according to the Clock by her bedside. In a last-ditch effort to make a difference, she tries to rescue Radicals from the government's crooked justice system.

But when the authorities find out about her illegal activity, they cast her through the Wall - her people's death sentence. What she finds on the other side about the world, about eternity, and about herself changes Parvin forever and might just save her people. But her Clock is running out.

Profound!

This book! I have no words for the depth of emotions and wild twists and turns. Nadine Brandes is a brilliant storyteller. Now on to binge book 2!

I love this book!

When I saw that Nadine's book series, A Time to Die, was going to be on audible I squealed and pre ordered them all immediately!

This story draws me into Parvin's Pilgrimage and allows me to reflect on my own. I had already read this book twice on my own, and listening to it now for the 3rd read brought this adventure to life in a whole new way!

I highly recommend this read to anyone, especially those working through finding purpose in their life and time.

Not as good as Romanov

This first book is the best of the three; however, did not enjoy this series as much as I liked Brandes’s Romanov novel. This series felt as if I were reading a missionary’s autobiography set in a dystopian fantasy world with a less interesting and less authentic characters. I made the mistake of purchasing the first two audio books and a Kindle version of the first book.

The series had a really interesting premise—what would you do if you knew the exact day you would die? What would you do if you knew you would be thrown into a wilderness if you didn’t officially know the day would die? Unfortunately, the main character was just so stupid, it was hard to relate. She blames herself for problems she obviously had no way of solving, ALL THE TIME. The reader can discern obvious answers to problems that the protagonist cannot, and she DOES NOT solve the actual problems she CAN. This makes for tedious reading. Bible verses and Christian truisms are thrown out like candy. The protagonist overthinks EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME, and we as readers are “treated” to her every internal battle which becomes repetitive and boring.

This series is a good example of what happens to novels when “the message” gets in the way of the story. Do yourself a favor, and if you like Christian speculative fiction, get it from the library before you buy.

I'm not sure I can get through this.

I like the storyline of this book but the constant whining of the main character in combination with the horrible whiney tone the narrator uses makes it almost unbearable. I really tried to get through it.

weird attempt at christian allegory

storyline was not terrible but the premise was a stretch and the protagonist was annoying and the attempts by the author to make the reader feel for the character fell flat due to her constant whining, self centeredness and inability to have any normal interaction with any of the other characters. if the authors goal was to make the reader hate the central character, then she did a great job. The attempt to insert Christian morals and gospel was super annoying.
