I honestly grabbed this out of curiosity, but it surprised me in the best way. It’s genuinely useful and doesn’t have that annoying “let me lecture you about life” energy. Everything is broken down into short, digestible chapters that hit on real stuff we actually deal with—time management, stress, online safety, and basic cooking without making it feel overwhelming or extra.

The 15-minutes-a-day format is clutch, especially if you’re busy or mentally tapped out. The narrator keeps it calm and motivating without sounding corny or preachy. It really feels like a knowledgeable older sibling giving you real advice, not someone talking down to you.

Honestly, if I had this in high school, it would’ve saved me a lot of unnecessary mistakes. I’d definitely recommend it for teens—and even for early-20s folks who are still figuring things out and want a little more structure in their life.

I applaud this book. Although many children will learn these things before the age of 18, some are not in situations where this is possible. All of the information included qualify as useful life skills. The audio version refers to documents that would not be available outside of the written version. Although not critical to most of the material, they are mentioned in the text and the listener will not get the full benefits of the material, especially visual or hands on learners. I like that the book is advertised as only needing 15 minutes a day. It makes it more realistic, especially if the book is played during trips to and from school where there is a captured audience. It is not clear to the listener where these breaks occur. I'm uncertain is this is completely necessary but worth pointing out.

Sure wish this was mandatory 7th grade level at least. My teen used more energy fighting against doing these things than she would have used if she’d just done them. The results of the effort are worthy enough to continue. This book makes it clear and achievable.

Perfect for teens who want real skills fast

This audiobook changed how I handle life. Short 15-min sections fit my schedule perfectly—no fluff, just useful stuff.

I used the cooking basics section and made my first decent scrambled eggs and pasta without burning anything (huge win—my mom was shocked). The emotional awareness toolkit helped me stop overthinking texts from friends; I actually slept better after one listen.

Online safety part caught me slipping on privacy settings—I fixed them that night. Time management tricks got me studying without procrastination for the first time ever.

Narrators keep it engaging, not preachy. Finished in a month, feel way more ready for moving out. Every teen needs this. Parents, buy it now.

not just for teens an in my 40

I have girls who are getting one to the teen years, so I thought this would be nice for them to have as a reference guide. as I listened I found myself wishing I had this as a teen myself. while I learned all these as an adult, it would have been so much better to have learned in high school. I really appreciated how Ellington takes into account the new digital age as well as time proven methods and broke the information into categories and chapters. there are excellent beginner resources to practice with like basic recipes, meal plan chart, sample menus, cleaning charts, etc. these resources obviously are more useful in the physical or digital copy of the book however the audio is nice for first run through or those who are busy.
